Hello Readers,
During my frequent Internet searches and trips to the library & bookstore for various educational and learning resources, I slowly began to notice there are millions of ‘what not to do’ resources available on every topic imaginable. I was surprised and disappointed at the lack of resources available for individuals to learn ‘what not to do,’ especially when it comes to everyday situations we all face.
While mistakes can be viewed as opportunities for individuals to grow and learn, our nation’s financial crisis, national disasters, record high job losses and foreclosures, and deteriorating infrastructure have exacerbated even the smallest mistakes we make and can create a lasting and devastating effect and slow or reverse the progress we make in life. There has never been a better time or greater need to learn what not to do, especially when it comes to managing our family, education, business, money, and everyday events.
While listening to one of many inspirational speeches by President Obama, I began to think seriously about the word CHANGE and what it means to me and my family and how we will embrace it in the future. I believe that’s when I had my own ‘defining moment’ and the inspiration for LearnWhatNotToDo.com. My goal is to develop a platform that could:
- change the way we reference learning by providing a resource for real-life lessons learned
- change the way we address issues and make decisions by focusing more on avoiding and lessening mistakes
- change the way we educate by sharing lessons learned
- change the way we overcome past mistakes by helping others avoid them
Imagine the change we could promote if we all contributed and shared the knowledge we’ve gained from our actions or decisions which resulted in a mistake, blooper, faux-pas, gaffe, or mishap. This is my definition of lessons learned and way to embrace change. But more importantly, it is a way for us all to be a blessing and service to others.
